A bunch of longtime listeners opened Release Radar this week expecting fresh cuts, only to find playlists padded with familiar tracks and compilation fillers they swear they’ve seen before.

On Spotify’s community forum, user BaneOfKnoll made a post asking why Release Radar is “now filled with a stack of old songs,” pointing to “Compilations” being counted as new releases and even new art being applied to older tracks from followed artists. “I can’t imagine the artist would like their artwork changed and it’s making the release radar unusable,” they wrote, summing up the mood shared by others piling on with “same here” replies.

A second community post from andymcphee highlighted the same problem. They said, “80% of the songs are already in my liked songs/playlists and are not from the album they are from compilations of songs,” which undercuts the very purpose of a weekly release feed.

Over on r/spotify, DertDikDik noticed “classic tracks” dropping into Release Radar and asked if they’d been reissued or if Spotify messed up, which set off comments pointing to tracks being re-served via new compilation drops. One commenter, Calm-Expression-6338, noted the same issue was already cropping up in “multiple threads,” a sign that it’s not an isolated bug affecting only a handful of users.

Another r/spotify thread framed it as Release Radar being “ flooded with various Spotify-made playlists. Such as, Rock, The New Loud. Which it looks like a nice playlists but I don’t want that promoted in release radar.”

Apart from Reddit and Spotify’s community forums, complaints are popping up on X as well. However, there’s still no word from Spotify on why this is happeneing and when will it be fixed.

We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will post an update if there’s something to share
