You’re definitely not the only one dealing with this digital roadblock. While Google’s experimental search feature is supposed to be rolling out to more users, plenty of people are finding themselves locked out despite meeting all the requirements.
The complaints are pouring into Google’s support forums, with users sharing nearly identical stories. One Pixel 9 owner from the US expressed their confusion after the feature worked perfectly for weeks, then suddenly vanished without any changes to their settings.
This thread got over 25 votes from others claiming to be stuck in the same situation.
Another user discovered they could access AI Mode through Chrome but not through the official Google app on the same device with the same account.
What makes this particularly maddening is how the troubleshooting advice keeps circling back to the same basic checklist. Product experts keep suggesting users check their language settings, enable web activity, or make sure they’re in supported countries. But when users confirm they’ve already done all that, the responses get more vague.
While Google initially limited AI Mode to the US and India, users in Hong Kong have been told the feature isn’t available in Chinese languages yet. However, even switching to English doesn’t always solve the problem, leaving some users stuck in a loop of changing settings with no results.
This is the thread in which the most noteworthy exchange came. When the user confirmed that nothing worked, a product expert essentially acknowledged this might be a bug on Google’s end and escalated the issue internally.
While this problem doesn’t seem to be affecting everyone, at least Google should be taking notice following the escalation. For now, users might just have to wait it out, though that’s probably not the answer anyone wants to hear when dealing with a feature that’s supposed to make searching easier.
