Update 04/09/25 – 3:50 pm (IST): Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ömer Fatih Sayan highlighted the outage in a post on X, stating, “Our National Cyber Incident Response Center has requested a technical report from Google regarding the cause of the outage.” They also added, “We are closely monitoring the situation.” There’s still no follow-up from the minister, though the outage seems to have been resolved for the most part.

Update 04/09/25 – 2:17 pm (IST): Google services appear to be restoring for affected users. We’ve spotted a number of comments/posts indicating that Google is working fine again.

Google is back… – @mono__bo

I think they are back up. Couldn’t access all of Google products for a few mins – @erikpetroff

i’m from turkey and as of now both services are working. is it the same for the balkans? – nymph0nia

Original article published on September 4, 2025, follows:

Reports popping up online suggest that multiple Google services, such as YouTube, Search, and even Gemini, are down and not working.

The outage appears focused on the Balkans and Eastern European region. Users in Turkey first noticed issues around 6:30 PM local time, with complaints quickly spreading across social media platforms. Bulgarian users reported similar problems, with one Reddit user noting “Google and YouTube dead in Bulgaria as well.”

There are plenty of reports on X too:

Interestingly, users in Western Europe, including the UK, report no issues whatsoever. This suggests the problem stems from specific server infrastructure or routing issues affecting the southeastern part of the continent.

An outage tracking platform also indicates that plenty of reports of an outage from that region.

Google hasn’t issued an official statement yet, though its service status dashboards remain notably silent about the widespread reports.

That said, it’s possible that this outage might be impacting other services as well. We’ve spotted a thread on Reddit noting an outage with Claude too. It’s too early to tell exactly what might be causing the sudden outage. The selective nature of this suggests potential routing issues or problems with specific data centers serving the southeastern European region, rather than core system failures.

This could very well be a Cloudflare mess-up, as its status dashboard lists the following:

  • Istanbul, Turkey – Partially Re-routed
  • Izmir, Turkey – Re-routed

In the meantime, you could try using a VPN and switching to a location in the United States or even the United Kingdom, basically any other region where the services are up and running. Just make sure to use a trusted VPN provider and not any random extension.

We’ll keep track of the situation and report back here. If you’re from the affected regions, feel free to drop a comment below to let us know if Google is back up and running for you or not.

Developing…..
