Some Google Pixel 7 series owners testing the Android 16 beta say their phones are randomly restarting during voice calls. The issue, reported by multiple users in recent weeks, interrupts calls abruptly and leaves devices unusable for minutes.
One user described their phone restarting “out of 10 calls 4/5 times” mid-conversation. Another said their device rebooted automatically after every 3 – 7 minutes on a call, erasing the call log. Several reports mention the problem occurs without warning, even on short calls. Build numbers like BP22.250103.008 appear linked to the issue across Pixel 7a (“lynx”), Pixel 7 Pro (“panther”), and base Pixel 7 (“cheetah”) models.
Google has acknowledged the bug in its issue tracker, labeling it a high-priority “P2” problem under the Android platform. The main thread on the tracker has a whole bunch of reports marked as duplicates. A Google employee responded one that thread stating, “We have shared this with our product and engineering team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.”
Affected users say the reboots disrupt daily tasks. One person called the impact “extreme” since the device becomes unusable during reboots. Others called it frustrating during work calls or emergencies. While beta software often has bugs, testers argue stability during basic functions like calls is critical.
That said, this is precisely why it’s advised not to install beta software on your primary smartphone. For those already impacted, options are limited. You could try rolling back to the stable Android 15 channel if the bug is unbearable.
With no fix yet, Pixel 7 beta users are urged to share device logs if the problem occurs. For now, the glitch serves as a reminder of the trade-offs that come with testing unfinished software.
