Following the December 2024 software update, some Google Pixel users have reported issues with mobile data connectivity. Affected individuals note that their devices intermittently lose internet access, despite displaying a full signal. This problem appears to span various models, including the Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel 9 series.

One user with a Pixel 7 said their phone started overheating and then just wouldn’t stay connected to mobile data anymore, which also drained the battery. A Pixel 8 owner echoed the same frustrations. The Pixel 7 user later claimed to have found a fix by turning off 4G calling. So you might want to give it a shot.

Over on T-Mobile, a Pixel 9 Pro XL user mentioned their phone keeps losing data connection, though calls still go through fine. The usual tricks like flipping airplane mode on and off or restarting the phone didn’t cut it. Another user pointed out that while their phone could share a hotspot with a laptop, it couldn’t get online itself, suggesting the issue is with the phone, not the network.

Some desperate folks have tried resetting their phones to factory settings, but even that’s not a sure fix. I haven’t observed the behavior on my Pixel 7a on the December patch. Furthermore, the amount of reports online at the moment does not indicate that this is a widespread bug. Phew!

That said, Google hasn’t come out with an official word or a patch yet. So, if you’re dealing with this, the best thing to do is get in touch with your carrier or Google’s support team for assistance, as recommended by product experts on Google’s forums. We’ll post an update if we come across any information that’s worth sharing.
