If you’ve been holding out for a more productivity-friendly Google tablet, the wait might be worth it. According to sources at Android Authority, Google is working on the Pixel Tablet 2, and it’s coming with some new tricks, including a keyboard case. This addition could be a big step toward making the Pixel Tablet a more serious work device rather than just a media machine.

The first Pixel Tablet, launched last year, came with the Tensor G2 chip and a charging speaker dock but notably lacked a keyboard or stylus — something many productivity-focused users found limiting. Google seems to be aiming to fix this with the Pixel Tablet 2, which may come with a more powerful chip, likely the Tensor G4 or possibly even the G5, along with a better camera setup. The exact details of the camera improvements are still under wraps, but any enhancement here is a welcome bonus.

The new keyboard cover will attach to the tablet via pogo pins on the back, allowing the tablet to prop up comfortably. Think of it as similar to the OnePlus Pad 2’s setup. Google reportedly scrapped plans for a keyboard and stylus on the first Pixel Tablet due to quality issues, but it looks like the second time’s the charm.

In addition to the hardware changes, Google’s been working on software updates for Android that better support keyboard and stylus inputs. Over the past year, Android has seen new features like desktop windowing, enhanced keyboard shortcuts, and improved touchpad gestures, features that could make the Pixel Tablet 2 a more practical option for work tasks.

Speaking of which, Google might be adding a new touchpad tutorial with the Pixel Tablet 2. This further proves that the company is taking productivity seriously this time around. Depending on its release timing, it might launch with Android 15 or even Android 16, potentially packed with more features aimed at multitasking and productivity.

As for design, don’t expect a drastic change. Sources say the Pixel Tablet 2 will look a lot like its predecessor, though the bezels could be a bit thinner, and the button placements may vary slightly.

It’s still unclear if Google will release an official stylus for the Pixel Tablet 2, what it will cost, or whether the keyboard will come bundled or sold separately. A release in 2025 seems likely, so keep an eye out for more details in the coming months.
