The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold costs a bomb, but what’s even scarier is its repair costs. Priced at $1,799, this high-end foldable packs impressive features but comes with an expensive repair bill that might make you think twice before spending on Google’s new foldable.

Replacing the inner screen alone, which includes the essential metal frame and hinge, will set you back a whopping $1,199. That’s a serious jump from previous models and a huge portion of the device’s original price. Google partnered with iFixit to offer these parts, but even DIY repair enthusiasts might balk at the steep price tag. The outer screen is comparatively cheaper at $189.99, though still pricier than last year’s model by $30.

And it doesn’t stop there. The rear camera unit, with its three lenses, costs $249.99, nearly doubling in price from the first-generation Pixel Fold. Additional parts like the outer front camera ($79.99), inner front camera ($89.99), and rear cover ($129.99) mean that if multiple repairs are needed, you could end up paying as much as the original device cost or more. Even the batteries are no bargain, priced at $66.99 each for the base and flip batteries.

Google’s Pixel Fold series had already earned a reputation as one of the most expensive devices to repair. Many owners found that fixing a damaged screen and battery could easily exceed $1,000, rivaling the price of a new Pixel 8 Pro. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, while not cheap, offered a comparatively more affordable repair experience, making Google’s repair prices seem even steeper by comparison.

So, if you’re planning to invest in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, you might want to handle it with extra care. This foldable marvel is stunning, but one drop could mean a pricey repair ordeal. Let us know if these exorbitant repair costs are holding you back from purchasing foldable phones.
