Google might just be planning to launch its upcoming mid-ranger, the Pixel 9a, ahead of its standard schedule. Android Headlines reports that multiple sources have confirmed to them that the Pixel 9a will be available for pre-order in mid-March 2025, a significant shift from its usual release around May during Google I/O. The phone will be ready for shipping and in-store availability before the end of March.
This earlier release follows Google’s decision to move up the timeline for its Pixel 9 family, which debuted in August 2024, two months ahead of previous Pixel launches. It seems this accelerated schedule will be the new norm for Google’s a-series, with the Pixel 10a expected to follow the same March timeline in 2026.
The Pixel 9a is expected to come in four color options: Porcelain, Obsidian, Peony, and Iris. Additionally, leaked CAD renders of the device appeared earlier than usual, hinting at Google’s shift in strategy.
Google’s overall timeline is moving forward, with Android 16 also rumored to launch in Q2 2025, months ahead of typical releases. The earlier rollout for both hardware and software aligns Google more closely with other flagship phone makers, potentially allowing for a more competitive presence in the market ahead of big shopping seasons like Black Friday.
