In a lab test by GSMArena, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold stood out for having one of the brightest screens among foldable phones, surpassing Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 by a long shot. Both the inner and outer displays on Google’s foldable excelled, showcasing peak brightness levels that make outdoor use a breeze.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold boasts an 8.0-inch LTPO OLED main display, one of the largest foldable screens available. In manual mode, the main display reached an impressive 2,049 nits, while the cover display hit 2,172 nits in auto mode. These figures make the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s display one of the brightest foldable screens ever tested. For context, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 scored 1,630 nits for its main display and 1,559 nits for the cover display—significantly lower than Google’s offering.

The test results for other foldable phones were also included for comparison. The Vivo X Fold3 Pro posted solid numbers, with its main display achieving 2,129 nits and its cover display registering 1,835 nits, both trailing behind the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Honor Magic V3, another strong contender, also performed well with 2,093 nits on its cover display, but it couldn’t surpass Google’s latest foldable.

The publication notes that both displays on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold are designed with HDR10+ support, though it lacks Dolby Vision. The 1:1 aspect ratio of the inner screen may not be ideal for video watching, but for daily tasks and productivity, the clarity and brightness are undeniable advantages.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6, with its 7.6″ Dynamic AMOLED display, comes close but can’t match the Pixel’s sheer brightness. Despite that, Samsung’s foldable remains competitive with its display quality and color accuracy, but the higher brightness levels on Google’s device give it an edge in direct sunlight.

So despite being a relatively new kid on the block, Google’s foldable future seems bright, pun intended!
