Google is making some tweaks to its Contacts app, and while the changes might seem small, they could shake up how you navigate your list of favorite people. Gone is the ‘Recently added’ section in the Highlights tab, a feature that some of us didn’t even realize we’d miss until it was gone. Previously, this section gave you a quick peek at the last five contacts you added, but now, new contacts will only show up under ‘Recents’ once you’ve opened them. You can still find the ‘Added’ date buried at the bottom of a contact’s details, but let’s be honest—it’s just not the same.

This move seems to simplify the Highlights tab, which still showcases your Favorites grid, birthday reminders, and recent interactions. Google’s likely trying to streamline things, but if you’re someone who constantly adds new contacts, this might feel like a step backward.

But let’s talk about the exciting part — the upcoming ‘Pixel Besties’ widget. Google’s working on a widget that’s all about your favorite people, letting you quickly view recent chats and shared memories with those who matter most. Think of it as the upgraded, better-looking cousin of the Individual contact widget. It’s still in the works, so we haven’t seen the final look, but expect it to land in a future update.

Oh, and if you’re a Pixel Tablet user, there’s more good news. The upcoming Android 15 QPR1 update will finally bring lock screen widgets to your tablet. You’ll be able to access your favorite apps directly from the lock screen — just a tap, and you’re in. It’s a feature that might eventually make its way to Pixel phones, but for now, tablet users get the first taste.

So, whether you’re excited about the streamlined Contacts app or the potential of the new Pixel Besties widget, it’s clear that Google’s keeping things fresh and user-friendly. Keep an eye out for these updates — they’re rolling out soon.
