Google’s Android 15 update is bringing a long-awaited feature to the Pixel Tablet: lock screen widgets. This exciting addition will allow you to access your favorite apps and information directly from your tablet’s lock screen without having to unlock it first.

With Android 15 QPR1 that’s coming soon to the Pixel Tablet, Google is getting serious about polishing the lock screen widgets. There’s even a friendly little introduction text now that pops up to guide you through setting it all up. It says you can “get quick access to your favorite app widgets without unlocking your tablet.” Sounds neat, right? Although, if you’re a Pixel phone user, I’ve got some news: for now, this treat is exclusive to the Pixel Tablet. But who knows? The smartphone version might be just around the corner.

To access lock screen widgets, simply tap the “Add Widgets” button on your tablet’s lock screen. You’ll be greeted with a user-friendly interface that allows you to choose from a variety of widgets. However, it’s important to note that not all widgets are compatible with the lock screen, so be sure to select those that are specifically designed for this feature.

Google has also added a helpful disclaimer to remind users that lock screen widgets are visible to anyone who has access to your tablet. It’s essential to avoid adding widgets that display sensitive information, as they can be easily seen by others.

While lock screen widgets are initially exclusive to the Pixel Tablet, there’s a possibility that Google may optimize them for phones in future updates. This would be a welcome addition for Pixel phone users who are eager to take advantage of this feature.

The official release of Android 15 QPR1 is expected around December, which means the holiday season could come with a sprinkle of widget magic for your Pixel Tablet. Once the lock screen widgets feature rolls out, you’ll see a brand-new “show widgets on lock screen” toggle in your settings. Just head over to Settings > Display > Lock screen and Settings > Hub mode on the Pixel Tablet.
