Google is gearing up to bring some cool new weather features to the Pixel 9 series and the Pixel Tablet, as revealed in a support page. The page teases an exclusive weather experience that’s sure to make Pixel fans feel like they’ve got their very own weather station in their pocket — or, you know, on their coffee table.

What’s new in Pixel Weather?

For starters, Pixel Weather isn’t just another weather app. This feature offers a fully customizable detail page, notifications, and a 10-day forecast, all in a sleek interface that’s designed to fit right into the Pixel experience. Pixel Weather also brings in some handy extras like air quality index (AQI), humidity levels, and a weather map that gives you a 6-hour precipitation forecast. Oh, and for those of you in the US, UK, and most of the EU (sorry Italy, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein), the Weather Map feature is there to help you plan your day, rain or shine.

One of the standout features is the AI Weather Report, which is only available on the Pixel 9 and later models, and the Pixel Tablet. This AI-generated summary gives you a neat overview of your location’s weather, but it knows when to step aside — like during extreme weather events. In those cases, the AI takes a back seat to ensure that urgent alerts take center stage.

And for those who like to keep things simple, you can disable the AI Weather Report if it’s not your cup of tea. Just head over to the settings in Pixel Weather, and you’ll be good to go.

Google knows that one size doesn’t fit all, which is why Pixel Weather allows you to rearrange weather blocks in the app. Want the “Hourly Forecast” front and center? Go for it. Just remember, some blocks, like the AI Weather Report, have a prime spot at the top and won’t budge.

And if you’re tired of receiving duplicate weather notifications, Google’s got you covered. The set-up process will prompt you to disable weather alerts from the Google app so you can streamline your notifications.

Pixel Weather on Pixel 8 and older

If you’re not rocking a Pixel 9 or the latest Pixel Tablet, you might be wondering if these features will make their way to your device. According to a 9to5Google report, it’s likely that most of these goodies, minus the AI Weather Report powered by Gemini Nano, will eventually trickle down to older Pixel models. We could see this happen as soon as December’s Pixel Feature Drop — fingers crossed.

In the meantime, Pixel Tablet users can start enjoying this new weather experience, making it easier than ever to stay ahead of whatever Mother Nature has in store.
