August update rolling out for Google Pixel phones

Google has started rolling out its August 2024 security update for Pixel devices, bringing a host of fixes and improvements to eligible models. The update, based on Android 14, carries the build number AP2A.240805.005 for most devices and is gradually being released to users.

The update covers a wide range of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 5a 5G and all subsequent models up to the latest Pixel 8 series. However, as with previous updates, the rollout is phased, meaning it could take up to a week for all users to receive the notification.

One of the notable fixes in this update addresses a screen brightness issue affecting Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users. The update resolves a flickering problem that occurred under certain conditions, improving overall display performance and stability.

For Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a owners, the update fixes a critical bug that caused devices to enter a reboot loop after a factory reset in specific circumstances. This issue was previously addressed in the Android 15 Beta 4.1 update, but it’s now available for stable Android 14 users as well.

The August update also includes a fix for a user interface stability issue. This problem occurred when switching from a user account without a screen lock to one with a screen lock under certain conditions.

In terms of security, the update resolves 46 vulnerabilities, with 11 dated 2024-08-01 and 35 dated 2024-08-05. These range from high to critical in severity, so it would be advisable to install it on your phone as soon as possible. Here’s the complete changelog for reference”

Users can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings > System > Software updates > System update > Check for update. If it’s not immediately available, you can try again in the next few days.
