A fresh leak suggests that the Google Pixel 9 series will arrive with Android 14 out of the box. This development might come as a surprise to many, since Google typically releases its flagship phones with the latest Android version.
The decision to launch with Android 14 raises questions about the release timeline for Android 15, which was expected to debut alongside the new Pixel devices. In fact, Google has already rolled out the last scheduled beta update, after which we expected to see the stable build go live. If we take into account past trends, the stable version of Android 15 could go live anytime between now and the end of September. So you might just have to deal with Android 14 on the Pixel 9 series for a couple of weeks to little over a month.
Despite launching with an older Android version, leaks suggest that the Pixel 9 series will still receive seven years of support. This includes regular Pixel Drops, OS updates, and security patches, ensuring the devices remain up-to-date until at least 2031.
In addition to the Android version news, Android Headlines also revealed details about storage options and charging capabilities for the Pixel 9 lineup. All three slab-style Pixel phones will reportedly start with 128GB of storage. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are said to offer up to 1TB of storage, while the standard Pixel 9 will max out at 256GB.
RAM configurations are also rumored, with the two “Pro” models featuring 16GB of RAM, and the regular Pixel 9 coming equipped with 12GB. These specifications position the Pixel 9 series as a competitive option in the high-end smartphone market.
Charging capabilities have also seen an upgrade, with Google reportedly introducing a new 45W USB-C fast charger. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are said to charge up to 55% in about 30 minutes, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL can reach up to 70% in the same timeframe when using the new charger.
Battery life remains a focus for Google, with all three models allegedly promising 24 hours of regular use and up to 100 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, featuring a 4650mAh battery, offers slightly different figures with 24 hours of regular use and 72 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode.
