Google is set to significantly expand the market for its foldable phones with the upcoming Pixel 9 Pro Fold. According to a recent article by 9to5Google, the new foldable might be sold in 10 countries, more than doubling its availability compared to the previous Pixel Fold, which was only sold in four markets.
Last year’s Pixel Fold was limited to Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. However, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is set to reach a much wider audience. The ten countries where the new foldable is teased on the Google Store include Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, UK, and US. If you reside in any of Australia, Japan, Singapore or Taiwan, there’s a “limited-edition collectible” waiting but only if you are among the first to pre-order this device and other Pro models.
This expansion marks Google’s efforts to make a bigger splash in the foldable market, reaching new customers across Asia, Europe, and North America. However, it’s worth noting that this isn’t a universal rollout to all countries where Pixel devices are currently sold. For instance, teaser pages for the Made by Google 2024 event in Italy and Spain only feature the Pixel 9 Pro, not the Fold.
Interestingly, while most teaser pages show the Porcelain model of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the Singapore page showcases the Obsidian version, hinting at possible regional variations in color availability or marketing strategies. Additionally, Google appears to be sweetening the deal by offering 1-year of Gemini Advanced with the Pro models, including the Fold.
For fans of foldable technology, Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold is shaping up to be an exciting option, especially with its expanded availability. It will be interesting to see how it fares against competitors like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and how consumers respond to Google’s latest offerings. If you’re in one of the lucky ten countries, keep an eye out for the official launch and pre-order opportunities.
