Move over megapixels, because Google’s Pixel 9 series is about to megapixel all over the competition. Leaked details reveal a camera overhaul that’s sure to have shutterbugs snapping with glee.

The hot goss? Well, pretty much all the camera sensors are getting a refresh. The standard Pixel 9 will boast a powerful 50-megapixel main sensor and an ultrawide sensor with the same muscle, while the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL up the ante with an additional 50-megapixel telephoto lens for all your zooming needs.

Speaking of zooming, let’s not forget the selfie game. The Pixel 9 keeps things simple with a 10.5-megapixel front camera that finally gets autofocus (about time!), but the Pro models take things to a whole new level with a whopping 50-megapixel sensor – that’s more pixels than some people have friends on social media!

But wait, there’s more. The foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold (or should we call it the Pixel Fold 2?) seems to be taking a different approach. It keeps the main sensor but downgrades the ultrawide and telephoto lenses. Maybe it’s on a megapixel diet?

The front cameras on the Foldable are keeping things consistent with dual 10-megapixel sensors.

Here’s the kicker: the upcoming Pixel Camera app is rumored to let you record videos in stunning 8K resolution – that’s almost four times the detail of regular ol’ HD. But fear not, Pixel 8 owners, because you’re getting this sweet update too.

Mark your calendars, because the Pixel 9 series along with the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds 2 Pro are all set to debut on August 13, 2024. I hope you have readied pre-order monies, for the Pixel 9 serires is here to help unleash your inner photographer (or videographer).

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
