A recent Statista report, drawing on data from DXOMark, has delivered some disappointing news for Google Pixel 6 Pro owners: their beloved phone seems to have the worst battery quality of any Pixel tested to date. The 6 Pro scored a paltry 81 on DXOMark’s battery test, trailing behind every other Pixel they’ve put through their paces, including the Pixel 5 and its paltry 4080mAh battery unit. The test measures battery performance in autonomy, charging and efficiency in various use cases.
Of course, the tech world is always evolving, and DXOMark hasn’t yet had the chance to assess the Pixel 8a, leaving us curious about its potential battery performance. DXOMark has already put the 8a camera into paces, ranking it well above the Galaxy S24. However, the Pixel 6 Pro’s battery score is a significant drop compared to other devices in the premium Pro series that include the Pixel 7 Pro (102) and the Pixel 8 Pro (111). The standard Pixel 8 slightly edged the 7 Pro with a score of 103.
What’s the culprit behind this underwhelming battery life? A few things quickly come to mind. The large, vibrant 6.7-inch QHD+ display with its snappy 120Hz refresh rate, combined with the power-hungry Google Tensor chip can be a bit of a drain on the battery. The phone is also known to struggle with network management and standby mode that often leads to extreme battery drain.
But if you own a Pixel 6 Pro, there’s no reason to despair. Despite this setback, your phone still boasts a killer camera, lightning-fast performance, and that gorgeous display we all love. Just be prepared for a few more trips to the charger than you might have hoped for.
It’s important to note that this report isn’t the final word on the Pixel 6 Pro’s battery. Plenty of users are still enjoying decent battery life from their devices. So, if you’re still eyeing a Pixel 6 Pro, don’t let this news completely deter you. Just be aware of its limitations especially at its age and consider whether its other stellar features outweigh the battery concerns.
If you’re already a 6 Pro owner, there are still ways to squeeze a bit more juice out of your phone. Try disabling the always-on display, dimming the screen a bit, turning off location services when you don’t need them, closing unused apps, and switching on battery saver mode when you’re running low.
The tech world is full of trade-offs, and the Pixel 6 Pro is no exception. It might not be the battery life champion, but it’s still a powerful and stylish device with plenty to offer. Just remember to pack your charger and enjoy all the other amazing features this phone brings to the table.
