A recent bug is creating annoyance for Google Home and Nest users where the song identification feature is experiencing issues where instead of offering both song and artist information, Assistant is only stating the song title.
Typically, when you ask “Hey Google, what’s playing?” or similar commands when music is playing on your Home or Nest smart speaker, Google Assistant responds with details of the name of the song and artist. However, this hasn’t been the case over the recent couple or so weeks. Interestingly, affected users say that posing a similar question to the Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max displays the title and artist name, but Assistant only says the title of the song without the artist name.
This unexpected change affects devices across multiple locations. Disappointed users are sharing their experiences on the Nest community forum, indicating a likely software problem rather than issues with individual devices.
The good news is that Google is aware of the problem. The company is actively looking into the bug, which should pave the way for a fix. However, there’s no word of when the fix will become widely available and how it will be implemented. be it through a software update to the Home app or a server-side fix.
While waiting for a solution, users can still identify songs. The Google Assistant app on smartphones doesn’t seem to be affected by the bug, so this is your only way out for now.
The glitched song identification response is definitely frustrating for Google Home users. However, Google’s acknowledgment of the bug gives users hope for a swift resolution. With luck, Google Assistant will soon be back to providing details of a song’s name and artist as usual.
