Google is gradually integrating its AI service, Gemini, into its products, ranging from Gmail and Docs to Maps and Messages. Recent developments suggest that Gemini might soon extend its influence to Chrome users on Pixel and other devices, offering password suggestions.

Code hints at Gemini powered password suggestions for Chrome users

Leopeva64 has spotted intriguing code updates submitted to Gerrit, Google’s code management system, for Chrome. These updates hint at the potential use of Gemini to suggest strong passwords to Chrome users. The code mentions an “AI-generated text… shown next to a generated password describing it as a suggestion.” This implies that Gemini’s role would be supplementary, offering suggestions alongside Chrome’s built-in password generator.

Other proposed updates within the code seem geared towards improving user experience. These include features like identifying a direct link for password resets and locating password requirements for specific websites. The burden of navigating password management could be significantly reduced with Gemini’s assistance in these areas.

However, it’s important to note that these updates are currently in the early stages of development. The “WIP” (Work in Progress) designation in Gerrit signifies that the code hasn’t been reviewed by Chromium developers yet, and it might not be implemented in the final version.

While the exact timeframe for this feature’s release remains uncertain, the overall trend of AI integration suggests its eventual arrival. Even if this specific update doesn’t come to fruition, it’s highly likely that we’ll see some form of password management tool leveraging Gemini’s capabilities in the near future.
