Update 1 (April 19, 2024)

03.10 pm (IST): YouTube support says the issue with missing comments has now been fixed.

Original article from April 18 follows:

YouTube users, both creators and regular viewers, have been struggling with a frustrating bug for several weeks where comments go missing from both video watch pages and the Studio dashboard. Now, YouTube has officially acknowledged the problem, promising a fix.

In a recent statement, YouTube explained that disappearing comments, comments only appearing after switching to the “Newest First” sorting option, and phantom notifications of non-existent comments are all signs of the widespread issue.

The engineering team is actively working on resolving the problem. While no timeline is currently available, YouTube will announce updates as they become available.

We’ve been receiving reports that some of you are experiencing issues with missing comments on your Video Watch Page or Studio. Thank you so much for flagging this! We’ve passed this along to our team, and they’re currently working on a fix.

This bug has caused much frustration, especially for content creators who rely on comments for audience engagement and feedback. It’s also been a problem for regular viewers who feel like being ignored by creators when their comments on videos disappear shortly after posting or never even show up at all. Hopefully, the promised fix will fully resolve the missing comments issues on YouTube.

This isn’t the only issue the YouTube team has been dealing with lately. At around the same time comments started going missing, reports of YouTube Kids videos not loading for some users also started showing up. Google is also looking into it.
