An alleged Google Fi wireless ad might have just given us our best look yet at the upcoming Pixel 8a. While Google hasn’t officially unveiled the device, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a few telltale signs pointing squarely towards the budget-friendly model.

The phone in the ad lacks a crucial detail present on the regular Pixel 8: a tiny microphone next to the rear camera flash. This aligns perfectly with the Pixel 8a leaks that also showcase a mic-less camera module. Plus, the colorway seen in the ad is a Pixel 8 Pro exclusive yet the phones in the ad are clearly not the 8 Pro, further fueling the speculation.

Of course, this ad doesn’t confirm anything. We’ll have to wait for Google to unveil the phone. Still, we do know a thing or two about the Pixel 8a specs based on rumors:

  • 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate
  • Google Tensor G3 chip for snappy performance
  • A possible bump up to 4,500mAh battery capacity
  • Same excellent cameras as the Pixel 7a

Whether this was a genuine leak or a sneaky bit of marketing by Google remains to be seen. But while we still await official confirmation, rumors suggest a price tag in the $500-$550 range and a potential launch date of May 14 during Google’s I/O event. It won’t be long before we put these rumors and speculations to bed.
