I spend an embarrassing amount of time on X, but every so often, I spot something intriguing. This time around, I came across a post showing off a “cute” Pixel 8c. The post was shared by X user @zaheen555 with the caption “This Pixel concept is both funny and cute at the same time! Would you buy one?” This got me thinking for a while and my final thoughts were – yes, I’d absolutely buy a mini and affordable Google Pixel phone, if it were a thing.

Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy using phones with powerful processors and big screens so that I can play BGMI (PUBG M) or COD Mobile over the weekends. However, I do appreciate compact phones like my iPhone 13, especially when I’m out and about. In fact, for everything other than gaming, I drift towards the iPhone or the Pixel 7a. The relatively smaller footprint makes these phones a breeze to use single handed. But even though the Pixel 7a is “smaller” compared to the likes of my OnePlus 11 (on which I game), it’s not really a “compact” phone.

The Pixel 7a with its 6.1-inch screen measures in at 152mm in length, 72.9mm in width, and 9mm in thickness. Comparatively, the most selling smartphone of 2023 — the iPhone 14 — measures in at 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8 mm respectively. Taking things further, one of the best compact Android phones — the ZenFone 10 — measures 146.5 x 68.1 x 9.4 mm. So as you can see, Google could do with a more compact device. Moreover, with the Pixel 8a expected to get a price hike, Pixel fans who want a truly affordable phone could do with something like this concept Pixel 8c.

I’ve seen some fans on Reddit even mention Google should do away with the A-series or replace it with a mini phone. Here are the words from one Redditor:

I wouldn’t mind if they replaced the a-series with a mini phone.

Another person shared the same sentiments:

They should cancel a Series and introduce a mini instead. I work in a network providers retail store and the number of people that want small phone are way too high.

Recently, Nimish Dubey of TechPP debunked MKBHD’s video claiming small phones are dead, and I couldn’t agree more. That said, Google could make a truly affordable Pixel by cutting down on costs further than it does with the A-series. A plastic build, a 60Hz display, heck, even take out some of the AI features and throw in less powerful Tensor chipset. If not a primary phone, it’ll make an excellent secondary phone for those who don’t want to break the bank.

Either way, I’d like to hear your thoughts on a “mini” and more affordable Pixel 8c or whatever Google fancies calling it. Would you buy it if it were a sub-$350 device?

Would you buy a "mini" budget-friendly Pixel phone?
