Google’s recent rollout of the Fuchsia 16 update for Nest Hub devices brought several improvements and new features to all three models. While many Nest Hub owners likely benefited from the Bluetooth, media control, and other fixes, several others are reporting that their Nest Hub units are trapped in a frustrating update loop.
The issue pops up after a Nest Hub reboots and attempts to install an update. Reports across the Nest community forums detail an endless cycle: the update seemingly downloads, reaches 100% completion, prompts a reboot, and then immediately begins the whole process all over again. Some have tried various troubleshooting steps like factory resets, switching to different networks, and scouring online forums for solutions – all to no avail. The problem seems to lie within the update itself, as there’s currently no way to prevent Nest Hub units from attempting the update process upon reboot.
One affected user pointed out that their Nest Hub “rebooted at some point and now does a fast 12-second “update”, reboots, and then repeats the process in an endless loop. I have reset it at least 10 times on my network… and even on a neighbor’s network to prove that the issue is not with my home network.” Other users echo similar woes, with update loops persisting no matter the network or troubleshooting attempts (1,2,3,4,5).
The situation is compounded by the lack of any official workaround. Owners of affected Nest Hub units are currently forced to endure the annoying update loop and reboots while they await a fix from Google. On the brighter side, a Google Nest community manager has acknowledged the issue, stating that Google is aware of the update loop problem affecting Nest Hub users and is actively investigating a solution. However, no timeline has been given on when a fix might arrive.
Thanks for posting about the update loop that you’re experiencing, I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Our team is aware of the issue and are actively investigating. Once a fix has been identified I’ll be back to let you know, appreciate the patience.
For now, those Nest Hub owners experiencing the glitch will need to exercise patience. Keep an eye on Google’s official channels and Nest community forums for updates regarding a fix.
