Update 12/12/24 09:22 am (IST): ChatGPT was experiencing a major outage leaving many users unable to access the service. Open AI was quick to acknowledge the problem and mentioned that they’re working on a fix.

At the time of this update, Downdetector indicates a sharp drop in the number of people facing issues with ChatGPT. Our own testing indicates things have returned to normal. If you can still not use the platform, we’d suggest holding on for a bit longer.

Original article published on March 14, 2024, follows:

Some ChatGPT users have been facing issues using the service as it appears to be down or not working for them. A handful of others users claim that ChatGPT has been working slower than usual. At the time of writing this article, reports about the problem have just begun emerging. I found some reports on X (1,2,3,4) and at least one post on Reddit in the past few minutes. Apart from that, hits on Downdetector indicate that at least 54 users claimed to have been experiencing issues with ChatGPT.

While a majority of reports simply mention ChatGPT being down, some individuals pointed out that DALL-E in particular is failing to generate images. Here’s one such report from an X user who shared a screenshot of the error message.

Granted that reports have just begun popping up on X and Reddit, it isn’t clear how widespread the problem is. If you too are one of those who’re experiencing issues with DALL-E not working, then don’t fret. Open AI’s team has updated its status page to confirm that they’re aware about the problem. The status reads – “We are currently investigating this issue.”

The team hasn’t provided an ETA for the fix, but we expect the service to go back to normal shortly. That said, ChatGPT was down globally just a few weeks ago. But the outage had only lasted for under an hour according to the official record. So we hope the same applies here.
