Google’s March Feature Drop unlocks the ability to share stunning Ultra HDR photos and immersive 10-bit HDR videos directly from your Pixel phone to Instagram.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography and video capture a wider range of colors, brightness, and contrast, resulting in images and videos that look closer to what the human eye sees. Here’s what you can expect:

Ultra HDR photos: Your photos will burst with vibrant colors, deeper shadows, and brighter highlights, making them stand out on your Instagram feed.

10-bit HDR Reels: Elevate your Instagram Reels with videos that showcase richer color depth and even similar traits as Ultra HDR photos, creating a truly captivating viewing experience.

If you own a Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro, or Pixel Fold, you already know your phone has an incredible camera. Now, you can seamlessly showcase the full potential of your Pixel’s photography and videography skills on Instagram.

How to share your HDR content

Sharing Ultra HDR photos and 10-bit HDR videos taken on your Pixel device on Instagram is a breeze:

  • Shoot your amazing HDR content using your Pixel’s camera app. The Ultra HDR feature is toggled on by default.
  • Head to the Instagram app on your Pixel phone.
  • Choose whether you want to share as an Instagram post (Ultra HDR photos) or a Reel (10-bit HDR videos).
  • Upload your content directly, and your followers will experience the full visual impact of HDR.

This exciting update is rolling out as part of Google’s March Feature Drop. Make sure you have the latest version of the Instagram app installed on your compatible Pixel phone. It’s worth noting that the availability and functionality of this feature may vary depending on your location.

Whether you’re a casual Instagrammer or a content creator, this update empowers you to share truly eye-catching visuals. One thing you must know is that HDR content at night can be a bit disturbing as such content randomly blinds you by boosting the brightness. So if you’re not a fan of this, you can disable Ultra HDR in your Pixel’s camera app.
