Google Home users are grappling with a recent issue that’s been disrupting their smart home music experience for the past few weeks. Voice commands aimed at playing music on Nest speaker groups are failing, with Google Assistant responding that it cannot find the specified speaker group.
Reports (1,2,3,4) indicate that when Google Home users ask Google Assistant to play music on a speaker group, they are met with a response that says “Sorry I can’t find [speaker group name]. Please make sure that device is turned on and connected to the Internet.” This glitch has persisted despite repeated attempts to troubleshoot the issue, something I can also confirm with my Nest speaker group setup. A workaround I use whenever direct voice commands to Google Assistant stop working as intended is to initiate music playback from my phone and then send it to a speaker group.
Another workaround that some users have found useful is deleting and recreating their speaker groups or temporarily removing a speaker from a group, saving the changes, and then re-adding the speaker. However, this makeshift solution is only effective for a short period, as the issue inevitably resurfaces. Despite the growing frustration among Google Home users, Google has yet to officially acknowledge that Assistant can’t find Google Home speaker groups when using voice commands. This leaves us uncertain about when a permanent solution might be forthcoming.
The inability to seamlessly control Nest speaker groups through voice commands has disrupted the everyday routines of several Google Home users, impacting their overall user experience. As users eagerly await a resolution, the hope is that Google will address this issue promptly and restore the functionality that they have come to rely on.
Stay tuned for further updates on this ongoing issue with Nest speaker groups.
