Since the release of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro last October, users have eagerly embraced these flagship devices, lauding their exceptional photography capabilities and advanced AI features. However, a persistent issue has marred the user experience for some Pixel 8 users — stuttering and jittering when scrolling inside certain apps.

The issue has been observed in first-party apps like Google Play Store, Chrome, YouTube and YouTube Music. But there are also reports from third-party apps such as Reddit and X. The annoying thing is how long the issue has persisted despite the growing number of reports. In November, Google rolled out a fix for some touch-related issues, but it seems this didn’t resolve the Pixel 8 stuttering issues when scrolling in some apps. Ever since, the phone has received three more updates, February 2024 security patch being the latest version. However, reports are still coming in from affected Pixel 8 and 8 Pro owners, suggesting the scrolling issues still persist.

Potential workaround for Pixel 8 stuttering or jittering issues

Interestingly, our tests on the Pixel 8 running Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 and Pixel 8 Pro running the latest stable February build yield contradicting results. None of our units has jitters when scrolling in apps, which is not surprising since this issue doesn’t seem to affect everyone. A Redditor suggested a workaround that several others seem to agree did the trick for them, so you may also try it. Go to Settings -> System -> Developer options -> scroll down to “Logger buffer sizes” and change the default from 256k to 4M. If you don’t have Developer options visible, go back to Settings -> About phone -> scroll down to “Build number” and tap on it several times to enable Developer options.
