Google just dropped a cool teaser hinting at a brand new color option for the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro: mint green. Mark your calendars, because this refreshing hue is set to debut next Thursday, January 25th, exclusively through the Google Store and Google Fi.
The social media clues were anything but subtle – think a splash of mint paint across a Pixel 8 Pro and binary code translating to “Fresh year, fresh drop.” Plus, there’s that lingering mint Pixel 8 silicone case that’s been out there, not quite matching any existing phone colors. And remember that accidental website slip-up with the green camera bar a few months back? Seems like this minty surprise was always in the works.
In fact, a user on X shared an interesting screenshot of Google’s official repair guide which clearly mentions a ‘Light Green’ color option, ahead of the official teaser. So it seems Google accidentally leaked the new color but no one noticed it earlier.
This wouldn’t be Google’s first post-launch color play. Back in 2020, the Pixel 4a got a dreamy ‘Barely Blue” makeover, proving they know how to keep things exciting beyond release day.
But there’s more to this minty move than just aesthetics. Google isn’t letting go of those delicious Pixel 8 discounts quite yet – the 8 Pro is still $200 off at $799, and the regular 8 is a steal at $549. These savings, paired with the irresistible allure of a new color, might just push some undecided mobile shoppers over the edge.
So, if you’ve been eyeing a Pixel 8 or 8 Pro but wanted it with a bit more personality, get ready to embrace the mint revolution next week. I can’t wait to see how the new color looks in real life. Moreover, if Google added some fun color options to the Pixel 8a, that would be great too. Maybe I’ll add that to my wishlist for the Pixel 8a. That said, do let us know if a new color option is all that you need to be convinced of buying a new phone in the comments below.
