In a new move in favor of accessibility when browsing or downloading apps, the Google Play Store could soon get a function to generate FAQs for apps and games, all powered by AI.

The feature had been detected for the first time in November 2023 (by TheSpAndroid), but it is now in the latest Google Play Store v39.1 app that the company has implemented a working version of the AI generated FAQs. However, it is not available out of the box yet, as you need to enable it via flags.

The FAQs will answer some basic questions you may have about apps and games while you explore the Play Store, helping to save you time by letting you know in advance certain details that previously you would only know after you downloaded and tried the app.

According to the report, the Play Store AI generated FAQs are displayed on a separate card that includes a ‘Show’ button.

If you tap on the button, the FAQ will expand, showing three of the frequently asked questions, and you can click on the arrow to the right of each one to display the answer.

The card also warns that the text is generated by AI, and will offer the option to close the description when you are finished reading it.

There still seems to be some work ahead before the mass rollout

While the current implementation is functional, it seems there is still some work ahead as it only works with some popular games and apps. Perhaps developers have to adapt the description of their apps to a ‘friendly’ format that facilitates the creation of AI generated FAQs.

Also, for now, most apps that provide FAQs seem to include the same questions:

  • What do people like most about this app?
  • What are the features of this app?
  • What is this app about?

Finally, the fact that a moderately functional version of the feature is already included in the Play Store app suggests that it won’t take long for Google to roll it out to everyone.
