View post on imgur.comLately, Google has been working to leverage AI in creating innovative tools. Following the launch of Gemini Pro for developers and enterprises, Google has now introduced two new AI tools: TextFX and MusicFX.
TextFX and MusicFX are available for testing via Google Labs
These tools are currently available for testing purposes through Google Labs in select countries. TextFX includes a suite of 10 AI tools crafted to assist rappers, writers, and other creative wordsmiths in their creative processes. On the other hand, MusicFX is tailored to aid music artists in crafting music notes using AI. Both of these tools operate using the PaLM 2 large language model through the PALM API.
TextFX: An AI tool for writers
Google collaboratively developed TextFX with Lupe Fiasco, a GRAMMY Award-winning rapper and MIT Visiting Scholar. They integrated Large Language Models (LLMs), a type of machine learning model utilized for language-related tasks, into Lupe’s lyric-writing process.

Initially, Google started by codifying the task of generating words that sound similar into a few-shot prompt. Following successful testing, they developed a total of 10 distinct prompts, each uniquely designed to explore creative possibilities that may emerge from a provided word, phrase, or concept. You can check them out below.
- Simile – Create a simile about a thing or concept.
- Explode – Break a word into similar-sounding phrases.
- Unexpect – Make a scene more unexpected and imaginative.
- Chain – Build a chain of semantically related items.
- Pov – Evaluate a topic through different points of view.
- Alliteration – Curate topic-specific words that start with a chosen letter.
- Acronym– Create an acronym using the letters of a word.
- Fuse – Create an acronym using the letters of a word.
- Scene – Create an acronym using the letters of a word.
- Unfold – Slot a word into other existing words or phrases.
Subsequently, Google used MakerSuite to prototype each of these concepts. MakerSuite is a platform that allows users to easily construct and experiment with LLM prompts through an interactive interface. This led to the creation of TextFX, an AI tool that encompasses all these prompts.
MusicFX: An AI tool for music artists
In addition to TextFX, Google introduced MusicFX, an AI tool designed for musicians, producers, or anyone interested in sound experimentation. This tool enables users to craft music utilizing machine-learning technology.
MusicFX is powered by Google’s MusicLM and integrates SynthID (DeepMind’s innovative watermarking technology) to embed digital watermarks in its outputs. Notably, this tool cannot currently generate specific queries mentioning artists or containing vocals. The audio produced and prompt suggestions provided by MusicFX are experimental.
Those interested can try the TextFX and MusicFX AI tools at Google Labs. And since these tools are currently available for testing, if you come across content that violates any policies or applicable laws, or if you have feedback, you can use the flag icon to report it. This will help Google enhance its tools.
