The latest focus involves utilizing AI to refine the use of the Spanish language, particularly in the technological environment. Under the Real Academia Española (RAE) program, Google has implemented some improvements in the use of the Spanish language in Gboard and Search.
Improvements in use of Spanish in Search and Gboard
As part of this initiative, Google reached out to tech firms dedicated to improving Spanish language utilization. This is being done to increase the presence of the language. And it will help 590 million Spanish-speaking people to connect in their own language.
According to the announcement, Google has integrated the lexical resources from the RAE’s Dictionary of the Spanish Language into Gboard. Additionally, they’ve merged the Spanish Language Dictionary of the Royal Academy into the Search function.
Improvements in Gboard
Google’s integration of the RAE’s Dictionary of the Spanish Language into Gboard’s AI language models has brought notable enhancements. Users can now experience faster autocorrections for words like García, Rodríguez, Coruña, Nicaragua, or Jaén, including words with accents like música, río, frío, or vehículo.
Additionally, Gboard will offer improved word recommendations, seamless transitions between English and Spanish typing, and reduce biases. Moreover, the Gboard dictionary for Android has been enriched with thousands of new words sourced from the RAE lexicon.
Improvements in Search
The Spanish Language Dictionary of the Royal Academy has been integrated into Search. This means that users will see many improvements when they search for meanings of Spanish words, synonyms or examples of how to use Spanish words in sentences. For this, Google has reached out to 23 Spanish language academies around the world to contribute so that these improvements reach every Spanish speaker, irrespective of dialect varieties.
Conclusion
In addition, Google has also made other advances to improve or increase the presence of the Spanish language in their tools. Spanish grammar suggestions have been incorporated into Smart Compose and Google Docs. Furthermore, machine learning has helped to enhance automatic Spanish language translations.
