In September, Google confirmed that its Podcasts service will be the latest one to join its long list of ‘killed products’, and now the company revealed more specific details about when this will happen. They also offered more information on how you can export your Podcasts subscriptions to the YouTube Music service or third-party apps.

Google confirms that ‘Podcasts’ service is shutting down in April 2024

Google Podcasts was born in 2018, but it seems that it has not had the expected success since it is shutting down ‘as early as April 2024’ according to the company. So, you have until March to continue using it without problems.

The podcast segment is full of multiple options, and Google Podcasts was unable to compete for the top spots in its relatively short time of existence. Therefore, as Google usually does with options or services that are not used that much, it will be removed soon.

Google Podcasts users will be able to directly migrate all their subscriptions to the YouTube Music service using the ‘Export subscriptions’ option. The latter will soon begin to appear in a banner of notable size in the Google Podcasts service so that users do not forget to complete the process and do not lose their subscriptions next year.

Details about the ‘Export subscriptions’ option

It’s noteworthy that the ‘Export subscriptions’ option is also available on desktop browsers, so you can complete the migration from any platform. Also, you can even get your subscriptions in an OPML file that you can upload to any other third-party podcasts app or service.

In case some of your podcasts are not available on YouTube, the company says you can add them to your YouTube Music library ‘via the podcast’s RSS feed’. More details about the ‘Export’ option will be revealed in the coming days or weeks.

The YouTube team will also make some tweaks to its ‘Music’ service to make it a better podcast playback tool, such as adding a new ‘mark as played’ option that is essential on similar platforms, among others.
