OnePlus is gearing up to redefine display brilliance with its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 12. In a teaser shared on Weibo, a OnePlus exec hints at an extraordinary peak brightness of 4,500 nits for the device, surpassing the competition and notably outshining the Google Pixel 8 Pro.

The Pixel 8 Pro currently leads the pack with a peak screen brightness of 2,400 nits thanks to the new Super Actua display technology, which is able to achieve this by keeping HDR images looking true to life especially in direct sunlight. This is brighter than the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 2,000 nits and even the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 1,750 nits. But with this revelation, it seems OnePlus 12 may take over this crown with these crazy numbers. A peak brightness of 4,500 nits not only promises a visually stunning experience but also positions the device as an industry leader in screen technology. This feat is particularly noteworthy given the Pixel 8 Pro’s display excellence.

With a screen that can get brighter than every rival, potential OnePlus 12 buyers should have the best experience when using the phone in direct sunlight. Although I’m finding it hard to believe the phone will actually achieve peak brightness as high as 4,500 nits with normal usage, even with HDR content, so this could just be one of those marketing gimmicks companies use to hype smartphone launches.

Speaking of, OnePlus 12 will be unveiled in China on December 5, 2023 with a global launch to follow in January 2024 so it won’t be long before we verify these claims. But as fans eagerly await the official release, the promise of surpassing the Pixel 8 Pro in peak brightness definitely adds an extra layer of excitement.
