The Google Pixel 8 is set to headline The New York Times’ new version of the “Style Outside” column that focuses on street-style photography. This is after The Times Company and Google agreed a partnership that will see the column’s writer, Simbarashe Cha, globe-trot with the Pixel 8 in all of its AI glory while capturing street-style photography for the column.

Over their entire existence, Google Pixel smartphones have developed a good photography reputation. As expected, Google took things a notch higher with the new Pixel 8 and 8 Pro by introducing a new sensor that significantly increases the amount of light the cameras can collect alongside some reality warping AI features. I’m pretty sure this is something Cha will relish given his background as a professional photographer, especially when nightfall comes.

The publication says Cha will first focus on Tokyo street style, while future columns will focus on next month’s Art Basel in Miami and similar global marquee fashion events. “Our Styles desk is always trying to help readers identify what’s noteworthy and forward-thinking,” Stella Bugbee, editor of Styles at the New York Times said. “This expansion of our Style Outside column represents our commitment to providing robust fashion coverage and inspiring our readers with looks from around the world, in a fresh and innovative way.”

T Brand Studio, The New York Times’ sponsored content division, has similar plans of its own as well. The division will on November 21 launch a “Through the Lens” creative campaign with Google to highlight the Pixel 8’s camera abilities. This goes to show that Google’s recent push into fashion and beauty with AI and AR features is paying off. According to Zach Overton, head of Google Pixel marketing, this partnership with The New York Times will “allow us to celebrate people’s self-expression and authentically capture the world around us.”

But just so you know, this isn’t the first time these two companies are working together. They have previously collaborated on content distribution and subscription tools, technologies like Google Cloud, Google Ad Manager, and so on. This new Pixel 8 partnership with the “Style Outside” column adds to an already thriving relationship between the two companies.
