If you own a Google Pixel phone, you are probably familiar with the ‘At a Glance’ widget that shows you useful information such as the time, weather, calendar events, and more on your home screen. However, you may also have wished for a way to disable or customize this widget, as it takes up some valuable space and may not suit your preferences. Well, it seems that Google is finally listening to your feedback, as the latest Android 14 QPR2 Beta 1 update brings a hidden option to turn off the ‘At a Glance’ widget on the Pixel Launcher.

This feature was first spotted by Mishaal Rahman, who shared a screenshot of the toggle on X. The toggle is located in the home settings of the Pixel Launcher, under the ‘At a Glance’ section. However, it is not enabled by default yet, instead, it had to be activated manually. Once activated, the toggle lets you remove the ‘At a Glance’ widget from your home screen, leaving more room for other apps or widgets.

This should be a welcome change for many Pixel users, who have been asking for the option to disable the ‘At a Glance’ widget for a long time. Google has been improving the widget with new features such as safety alerts, Nest Doorbell notifications, and delivery updates, but it has also been limiting the customization options for it.

For example, the widget cannot be resized or repositioned, nor can it be replaced with the redesigned version that Google rolled out recently. The new version of the widget has a cleaner look and more functionality, but it is only available as a separate widget that can be added to the home screen, not as a replacement for the original one.

With the new toggle, Pixel users will have more choice over how they want to use the ‘At a Glance’ widget, or whether they want to use it at all. It is not clear when this feature will be officially available, as it is still hidden in the beta version of Android 14. However, it is likely that Google will enable it in a future update. Until then, you can try to enable it manually if you are feeling adventurous, or wait for Google to make it easier for you.

If you aren’t part of the Android 14 beta program, then you’ll have to wait until March 2024 to get the feature. We expect to see this, along with other new features part of the QPR2 Beta 1 update to go live with the March 2024 feature drop for Google Pixel phones.
