Google Pixel 8 Pro pink AOD discoloration bug to be fixed in upcoming update

We recently reported that some Pixel 8 Pro were noticing a weird pink discoloration bug on the AOD screen. Concerns mounted as users discussed the anomaly on various platforms, including Reddit, where several threads cropped up, detailing similar experiences.

The problem, limited to specific regions of the display, had users perplexed. This is because the affected text reverted to its normal white color when the display brightened up. This issue was seen across different software versions, from stable releases to the Android 14 QPR1 Beta. So it was clear that the problem didn’t stem from a single update.

Some users sought replacements from Google, hoping to resolve the issue, but even the replacement units exhibited the same tinted display problem, raising questions about its origin. These experiences fueled speculations about whether the problem stemmed from a hardware flaw or if it could be resolved through future software updates.

Luckily, affected users can rest easy now that a Google employee has shed more details about the problem. A Google engineer has marked the issue as fixed on the main thread discussing the problem on the Issue Tracker. They claim a fix for the problem will be available with a future release.

This makes it clear that the problem was not caused by any hardware defect on the Pixel 8 Pro. While the exact timing of the fix’s rollout remains uncertain, there’s hope that it could be part of the November or December security update.

I hope to see the same commitment from Google when it comes to fixing the myriad of other bugs and issues Pixel 8 users have been having to deal with. As we await the update, it’s at least clear that Google is actively working on enhancing the Pixel 8 Pro’s user experience.
