Every year, the arrival of Halloween in the world of Pokemon Go brings with it an assortment of spooky surprises and special events. This year is no different, as Niantic has introduced a Halloween-themed Timed Research quest that includes a variety of challenges and rewards. However, trainers have found themselves in a situation where ‘take a snapshot of a ghost type Pokemon’ task is not registering.

Pokemon Go ‘take a snapshot of a ghost type’ not registering

This year, the Halloween Timed Research quest has become a central point of focus for players. Yet, a considerable number of trainers have discovered that this particular quest is more challenging than they initially thought.

The requirement appears straightforward ‘take a snapshot of a ghost type Pokemon’. However, players have reported that their snapshots of these ghostly creatures are not being counted towards the quests’ completion. The frustration among these trainers is palpable. They tirelessly attempt to meet the task’s criteria, yet it seems they are going through an ordeal of endless attempts with no progress.

The situation is indeed perplexing for players. Some have tried to capture multiple snapshots in various settings, including both augmented reality (AR) mode and non-AR mode. Despite their best efforts, the quest remains unfulfilled. Trainers are bewildered and perturbed as they diligently photograph different ghost type Pokemon, hoping that this time it will finally register.

Frustration is further exacerbated by the seasonal nature of the quest, which is set to conclude on October 31, 2023. The pressure is mounting for trainers who are eager to complete the Halloween Timed Research. The clock is ticking, and the challenge remains elusive.

Official word

Recognizing the growing frustration among Pokemon Go players, Niantic Support stepped in to clarify the situation. According to them, the Halloween quest might not be completed if a player takes a snapshot of a wild ghost type Pokemon:

The key to overcoming this hurdle, however, is to take a snapshot of a ghost type Pokemon that is already in your Pokemon storage. Trainers have reported that the quest is finally registering their snapshots after doing so.
