Here’s the crux of the article in video form:
New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on June 15, 2023) follows:
Instagram recently released a new update that introduced an exciting addition to the Notes feature, the ability to add music to your shared thoughts.
Notes allow users to express themselves and share their ideas with friends in the direct message section.
It’s a feature that has been available for some time now, but Instagram is continuously experimenting with it to make it more engaging and interactive.
Instagram ‘Music to Notes’ not working
Having said that, some Instagram users have reported that ‘Music to Notes’ feature is not working for them. The problem seems to vary among users.
While some individuals don’t see the feature at all, others have it but encounter issues when trying to use it.
This isn’t the first time that a feature is not showing up. Some Instagram users have also reported similar issues in the past such as Notes feature not showing up or missing popular songs in the Music Sticker library.

Interestingly, there are cases where the feature works perfectly fine on one account but fails to function on another. And there are a few possible reasons why the feature may not be working or showing up for everyone just yet.
Instagram often conducts A/B testing when introducing new features. This means that the ‘Music to Notes’ functionality might only be available to a selected group of users as part of the testing phase.
Secondly, updates on social media platforms like Instagram are usually rolled out in phases. This means that not all users receive the update simultaneously. Instead, it gradually reaches different accounts over time.
Moreover, Instagram features are sometimes limited to specific regions. This could be the case with the ‘Music to Notes’ feature as well. It’s possible that the availability of the feature varies depending on your location.
Rest assured, we will keep track of the latest developments and inform you as and when we come across anything noteworthy.
Update 1 (June 16, 2023)
05:50 pm (IST): The reception of this feature has been incredibly positive among individuals (1,2,3,4) who have had the opportunity to experience it.
Update 2 (June 19, 2023)
06:40 pm (IST): Fresh reports suggest that the feature disappeared after one had obtained it. However, it’s worth mentioning that this can happen during a testing phase.
Update 3 (June 20, 2023)
05:10 pm (IST): While the general reaction of the users for Music to Notes feature is positive, there are some users (1, 2) who didn’t like it and even asking it to be disabled.
Update 4 (June 21, 2023)
05:40 pm (IST): Some users reported that this feature is bugged as they can see the music in notes section, but it doesn’t play song when they tap on it.
Update 5 (June 22, 2023)
05:10 pm (IST): It appears that the feature test involves a rotation pattern, leading to a scenario where some users lose access while others gain it (1,2).
Update 6 (July 03, 2023)
06:07 pm (IST): There is currently no ETA for the mass rollout of the feature, which means it is still under testing as a few people have not yet received it (1,2,3).
Update 7 (July 05, 2023)
05:52 pm (IST): A suggestion has been put forth by an Instagram user, proposing the addition of a feature that allows users to show appreciation for the music shared in the Notes section by giving it a ‘like’.
Update 8 (July 25, 2023)
05:45 pm (IST): Even though this feature has been available for a while, some people still don’t have it (1,2).
Update 9 (October 16, 2023)
02:09 pm (IST): According to reports, a number of users have still not gotten the ability to add music to Notes or it has been removed for them (1,2,3,4,5,6).
Update 10 (October 18, 2023)
12:48 pm (IST): We have come across a workaround that can potentially fix the issue where Music to Notes is not appearing. A Redditor fixed this problem by adding music to their Status (not Stories) which made all the music to show up. And after updating the status with a random song, music became available to Stories too.
There is yet another fix by the Redditor (neverenoughsin). You can check out the steps below:
- Switch the language on your app to a different one
- Post a story with a random song to your close friends
- Switch language back to original
- If you have a business/creator account, switch it to personal
- Uninstall the app
- Install and login
