In a long-standing issue, Spotify users have been unable to share their favorite songs from Canvas to Instagram Stories. Canvas is a short looping visual that artists can add to each of their tracks on Spotify. It is designed to enhance the listening experience and engage fans in a new way.

According to Spotify, when listeners see a Canvas, they are more likely to keep streaming, share the track, add it to their playlists, save it, and visit the artist’s profile page. However, Spotify users are currently unable to share the Canvas. This issue has been affecting both Android and iOS users for several weeks.

How are Spotify users unable to share Canvas to their Instagram Stories?

When users select the Share option, the Canvas appears on Spotify, but when they go to Instagram, it disappears. In other words, when users try to share a song with its canvas on Instagram, it shares only the song with no video behind it. As a result, users end up seeing just a blank canvas on Instagram. It works on Facebook, so it appears that it’s not an issue on Spotify’s end.

When I tried sharing the song from Canvas, the same thing happened to me. I’ve attached the screenshots below for reference. Click or tap to enlarge.

Some iOS users claim that they started experiencing this issue after the iOS 17 update. While others speculate that this issue is a result of the broken API. Therefore, the exact cause of this issue is still unclear.

This issue is quite frustrating, especially for those who enjoy sharing their favorite songs with Canvas to their Instagram stories. Some users have expressed their disappointment on social media platforms and Spotify community forums. They hope that Spotify will resolve this issue as soon as possible and restore the functionality of Canvas sharing.

Issue acknowledged

Spotify has acknowledged this issue and said that they are working on fixing it. They hope to have this solved within a few weeks. In the meantime, they suggest that users can still share Instagram stories with a static background while they work on fixing the Canvas shares.

While looking for potential fixes, I came across a simple solution. It involves logging out of the app and then logging back in. However, some users may still face this issue even after logging out and logging back in. Therefore, I suggest that you wait for Spotify to fix this issue permanently and update your app as soon as possible. Until then, you can still enjoy listening to music on Spotify and sharing songs with static backgrounds on Instagram stories.
