Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

Elon Musk recently surprised the world by sharing a post on X where he was seen live streaming a video game. He tweeted a post with the caption “Just a quick test of X video game streaming” from his gaming account demonstrating the new feature with an hour of Diablo IV gameplay.

Many people already believe that X will eventually take over streaming services like Twitch, Kick and YouTube in light of this statement. If it truly occurs, it won’t really come as a surprise.

While the move seems promising, users have quickly identified several issues and limitations with the feature.

Issues with the live streaming feature

1. Flickering issues:

One of the immediate concerns involves flickering issues during live streams. A number of users made this observation in the post shared by Elon Musk. However, it’s commendable that Musk acknowledged the issue promptly, assuring users that it is indeed something to be fixed.

2. PiP mode related issues:

Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode is a valuable feature for users who want to multitask while enjoying a live stream. However, reports indicate that navigating the PiP mode on X can be challenging. A user complains that ‘when the stream is set to Picture-in-Picture it will stop playing as you scroll past other media’. For others, the mode just doesn’t work on the app.

It’s plausible that the functionality isn’t really optimized for the app because it’s still being tested. People can, however, expect to see an upgraded version of the feature with a progressive rollout.

X live video game streaming feature lacks basic features

1. Live Chat feature missing:

Live video game streaming is not just about watching. It’s also about engaging with the streamer and the community in real-time. Unfortunately, the current live streaming feature on X lacks a Live Chat option. This omission hampers the interactive nature of the experience, as users are unable to communicate directly with the streamer and fellow viewers.

Asking for the feature, a user said, “Just need to find a place on the screen for live X chat updates”. So, implementing a robust Live Chat feature should be a priority for X to elevate the streaming experience.

2. Limited Chatroom space:

Another noteworthy drawback is the insufficient space in the Chatroom. Multiple users have reported encountering a ‘Chatroom too full’ message, limiting the number of participants. Expanding the Chatroom capacity is essential for fostering a more inclusive and vibrant streaming community.

Having said all that, it’ll be interesting if X also lets users stream videos directly from Xbox or PlayStation. It will be fascinating to watch how much creators make from X revenue generation program, which was started two months ago, given that it is directly competing with Twitch.

However, addressing the identified issues such as flickering problems and limited Chatroom space will be crucial for X to compete effectively in the growing landscape of live streaming platforms.
