Since launch I haven’t been able to play a single ranked match. I always get the error message before the first round begins: “The game session has desynchronized” Casual works fine. But not ranked. (Source)

It always desynchronizes in Kombat League, and rarely do I get to play Kasuals. After the second match, it always desyncs, and we can’t play for shit. This was not an issue before the game was released, and I don’t know what caused it. (Source)

NetherRealm Studios’ newly released reboot of the beloved fighting franchise, Mortal Kombat 1, has reportedly become ‘unplayable’ in online matches.

According to reports (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), players are constantly experiencing desync issues in the game, preventing them from joining online matches.

The problem is most prevalent during rematches. When players attempt to connect again with the same opponent in an online match, the game desynchronizes.

As a result, players are forced to leave the lobby and search for other matches. This issue reportedly does not affect the offline single-player modes.

This issue has persisted in the game for some time now, and players had hoped that the latest patch would resolve it. Unfortunately, it appears that this is not the case:

I thought it would fix some major problems like performance issues or the fucking desync that doesnt let me play KL whatsoever. Well, nope! Performance is still very underwhelming, Im still getting desynchronized on every KL match which is the most outrageous of all mind you, and I still dont have Havik despite having completed the story. So wtf was this 6GB update for?? (Source)

Workarounds for ‘desyncing’ issues and error in Mortal Kombat 1 multiplayer

Despite the increasing number of reports, NetherRealm has not issued any official statements or acknowledgments of this issue. Even the newly released patch does not mention the desyncing issue in its patch notes.

Given the lack of response from the developers, some players have offered their own potential solutions to the issue.

One solution suggests that buying or unlocking characters could potentially fix the issue:

people say buying characters fixed it, but I didn’t know if it was the purchase or character part that was the fix. I did get into my KL first match, then the next two bugged. So I imagine the first match was a fluke. I preordered, so I already had Shang. But I just completed the story mode for Havik and completed the roster, and now I am not having any issues. Buying Havik also works from what I’ve seen others say. (Source)

However, there is no guarantee that this workaround will solve the issue.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if there are any further developments on the matter.
