A recent update to the Google Maps color scheme has changed the Traffic View layout and now it appears without green lines. But not many users seem pleased with this design (1,2,3,4,5).

Google Maps has long been a trusted companion for travelers, providing real-time navigation and traffic updates. However, a recent makeover in terms of color schemes has upset several users.

Google Maps new Traffic View with no green lines gets criticized

The problem at hand is centered on the Traffic View feature. Earlier, the red and yellow lines would indicate heavy traffic and moderate congestion and the green lines symbolized smooth traffic flow.

But as a result of the latest update, all green lines have mysteriously disappeared. In order to understand the difference, you can check out the images below. (Click/tap to enlarge)

This change has caused inconvenience, as green lines played a crucial role in planning efficient routes and avoiding congested areas.

Both iOS and Android users have reported this problem, demonstrating that it is not limited to a specific platform.

In the last 36 hours, Google Maps Traffic Overlay on iOS & iPadOS devices is no longer showing Green Lines, but for Android and Web it is.

The frustration among users is palpable. The missing green lines could disrupt their ability to gauge traffic conditions accurately, potentially leading to unexpected delays.

Potential workaround

Fortunately, we have come across a potential workaround that can help you get the previous version of Google Maps with green lines. You simply need to delete and re-download the app.

Update, if you delete the app and re-download it will revert back to the original, even if you then re log in

As of now, the team has not provided any official updates or statements regarding the issue. However, according to a Product Expert, Google will hopefully address the issue quickly, given the number of reports.
