Recently, Google announced that over 800 TV channels will be available to watch freely on Google TV devices.

This has been made possible by the company’s recent partnership with prominent streaming services like Haystack News, Plex, Pluto TV, and Tubi.

The channels will be available on Chromecast with Google TV as well as on some popular smart TVs from the likes of Hisense, Philips, Sony, and TCL that come pre-baked with Google TV.


After hearing this news, Google TV fans have got excited and are now enquiring about the same.

Google TV 800+ free channels on Android TV

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple Google TV subscribers are curious to know when they will be able to enjoy watching content from the advertised 800+ free TV channels in the US and other countries.

After the recent partnership, users can watch premium programming from some of the popular news channels like NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX.

Also, the content will be available in more than 10 languages including Hindi, Japanese, and Spanish.

And it’s understandable that users can’t contain their excitement and have taken to web forums to know about the availability status.


Is this available in other countries outside US? I travel a lot and always have my Chromecast with Google TV with me. Currently in Sri Lanka.

Will it come to Germany or Europe in general?

As per the official announcement, these free-to-view channels will be limited to Google TV devices in the US only, and that too with a gradual deployment over the next few weeks.

Also, there will be a new TV guide that will present all the channels in an organized manner. This will allow users to browse through different sections easily.

Along with this, one can easily bookmark or view content from premium over-the-air channels from YouTube TV and Sling TV as well. However, it is worth mentioning that users might need to download a separate app for the same.


Expectedly, Android TV owners are asking questions. And according to Google, these 800+ free channels will also be coming to Android TV-based devices in the US and other territories later this year.

Being one of the most popular Android TV devices, we are pretty confident that the NVIDIA Shield TV will most probably be on the company’s bucket list.

However, Android TV devices from the likes of well-known smart TV brands such as Sony, TCL, and others cannot be ruled out as well.


Currently, the exact details of the eligible devices and regions are not available. Google has also not shared the criteria that’ll be used to decide eligible devices.

But we are hopeful that Google will make the over 800 free TV channels available to users across different regions soon. In the meantime, we’ll keep tabs on this topic and update this article with the latest information.
