It seems that Sony WF-1000XM5 owners have rather become hesitant to installing new firmware updates as a result of the WF-1000XM4 earbuds’ experience with software issues.

Firmware updates are a crucial component of enhancing user experiences and resolving issues. However, many users have been disappointed by the previous history of Sony’s software updates for its wireless earbuds.

This apprehension has now translated to Sony WF-1000XM5 owners being wary of installing new updates. For some, it is a clear consequence of the issues faced by their predecessors, the WF-1000XM4s.

It was a promising start when the Sony WF-1000XM5 hit the market. Shortly after their release, a firmware update was also announced to further refine and optimize the user experience.

The WF-1000XM4 earbuds had encountered a slew of problems following a firmware update. Users reported a range of issues, from severe battery drain to overheating problems.

As a result, several users felt annoyed and frustrated, leading to a lack of trust in Sony’s capability to deliver stable firmware updates.

Sony’s handling of the issues faced by the WF-1000XM4 further justifies the sense of apprehension. While it’s not uncommon for devices to encounter unexpected glitches after updates, it’s the response that truly matters.

I’ve asked the company for a thorough statement on what it has learned regarding the M4 battery drain problems and whether everything’s been squared away for the M5s. As of publication time, there has been no response.

Unfortunately, in the case of the WF-1000XM4, users criticized Sony for lack of responses and inadequate solutions.

A weird issue reported after v2.0.1 firmware update

Now, a Sony WF-1000XM5 user narrates their experience after failing to turn off auto-updates. According to them, they encountered issues related to uneven battery usage between the left and right earbuds.

Since the earbuds got updated v2.0.1, they also noticed occasional sound cut outs lasting for 1 to 2 seconds.

So such problems often give rise to users’ dread and reluctance to new updates. In this case, the user is seemingly troubled by the possibility that the new update might have contributed to the said discrepancies in the earbuds.

Therefore, Sony’s challenge now is to acknowledge these concerns, communicate effectively, and take robust measures to ensure that their updates enhance user experiences rather than hinder them.
