Spotify users are running into an issue where the music apparently pauses or stops playing after an ad.

Reports indicate that the occurs on various devices, including computers, phones, and TVs. We’ve shared a few reports below for reference.

the music just stops after it blocks the ad? (Source)

Recently, a little bit after the most recent spotify happened (in the last couple of days or so), whenever spotify plays an ad, instead of just skipping the ads like it normally would do with u block, spotify pauses on the first ad and stops playing completly (the ad itself doesnt play, it just stops). What we’ve gathered from user reports is that they’re able to listen to a few songs at first, but as once an advertisement kicks in, the music doesn’t continue playing as it should.

Chatter on the official support thread for the issue dates all the way back to May this year. So it’s clear that the bug has been around for a few months but a permanent fix is yet to arrive.

Official acknowledgment

Fortunately, a Spotify support staff member has now confirmed that the company is aware of the issue where the music pauses or stops after an ad and is currently being investigated.

There’s no ETA for a fix so we won’t get our hopes up too high. Although, on the bright side, at least we know Spotify devs are working on it.

That said, we will keep you posted here as soon as we have any new information to share. In the meantime, you can check out the status of other bugs and issues with Spotify in our dedicated tracker.
