Max users have lately been complaining that the ‘closed captions’ of the hit show Hard Knocks are out of sync.

The NFL regular season kicks off on September 7 with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Detroit Lions for Thursday Night Football.

However, there are already an array of interesting documentaries available for streaming. And this includes the most recent season of HBO’s highly acclaimed series, Hard Knocks.


HBO Hard Knocks ‘closed captions’ out of sync on MAX

Hard Knocks, a reality sports documentary co-produced by the NFL and HBO, depicts the training camp of an NFL team as they prepare for the approaching season. This season, the spotlight is on the New York Jets.

However, several viewers (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) are experiencing difficulties while watching the show on MAX. According to them, the closed captions are delayed and horribly out of sync.

Some are even astonished to observe a significant delay of about 10 minutes between the audio and the captions. Users claim that they can close caption a live broadcast with less lag than on the show.


Who at HBO made the choice to do such a horrible job close captioning Hard Knocks? I’m pretty sure you could close caption a live broadcast with less lag than this.

And to make matters worse, they are facing this problem across multiple devices, and that too on both live broadcasts and recorded streams.

However, one can watch other broadcasts or recorded shows without any occasional hiccups.

One of those impacted says that they are unable to hear a fair amount of audio from the documentary properly. And to rub salt in the wounds, the delayed closed captions make matters worse.

People have been complaining about this for several years. #HBO Hey #NFL What the hell? @NFLFilms you have any input ? Fix the CC delay…geez

Another user, who is hard of hearing, claims that a delay of even a few seconds ruins their viewing experience.

Subscribers (1,2,3,4,5) are also disappointed, as they have been experiencing similar issues while streaming the show for the past few years.

Year after year @HBO and @StreamOnMax cannot figure out how to do closed captions for @NFL Hard Knocks! Every other show or movie can figure it out but not the @NFLFilms. FIX IT!!!!

Fortunately, the Max support staff is aware of the issue and is diligently working to get it resolved as soon as possible. Although no EA for the bug fix has been provided.
