Sony has consistently been at the forefront, offering innovative features and impressive sound quality.

However, recent concerns about potential battery drain issues in the Sony WF-1000XM5 have raised eyebrows among users and potential buyers alike.

This worry stems from the notorious battery drain problem that plagued its predecessor, the Sony WF-1000XM4.

Since the launch of the Sony WF-1000XM5 a few weeks ago, reports have begun to surface about battery problems reminiscent of those experienced with the previous generation.

Users say that there is huge disparity in the battery drain of their earbuds.

Usually one ends up without a charge much faster than the other.

While it’s still too early to label this as a ‘generalized problem’, the concern shared by multiple users deserves attention.

Potential reason for battery drain

The user speculated that the source of the problem might be linked to the ‘Wind Noise Reduction’ feature.

This theory was fueled by observations that battery drain often occurred when this feature was enabled.

The main thread’s user conducted further tests to explore the potential battery calibration problem.

In one instance, they discovered that the battery of the opposite earphone drained faster than expected, raising questions about the overall battery calibration process.

This particular observation suggests that the issue may be more complex than initially anticipated, possibly involving software or firmware intricacies that warrant deeper investigation.

It’s important to emphasize that at this point, the reports of battery drain issues in the Sony WF-1000XM5 remain anecdotal.

A conclusive link to the ‘Wind Noise Reduction’ feature or any other specific factor is yet to be established.

Sony, as a company known for its commitment to customer satisfaction, is likely taking these concerns seriously and may be actively looking into the matter.

That said, we’ll keep an eye on this topic and let you know if there is an update.

Update 1 (August 15, 2023)

05:55 pm (IST): According to one of our reader, the excessive battery drain is happening because of an issue with Bluetooth multipoint and Sony’s firmware.

They claim that the battery lasts longer after turning off the feature on both the XM4s and XM5s.
