Original story (published on August 11, 2023) follows:

A key element of the game’s charm lies in the companions that players can acquire throughout their journey.

Among these companions is the adorable Owlbear Cub, a lovable and feathery friend that has garnered a significant following among the Baldur’s Gate 3 players.

However, some players have found themselves facing a puzzling predicament with the Owlbear Cub’s (1,2,3,4).

In Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, players encounter not one, but two Owlbear Cubs. The more accessible of the two can be found within the confines of the Goblin Camp.

As players embark on their quest to rescue the Owlbear Cub, they stumble upon a lighthearted yet risky game of ‘Chicken’ Chase, orchestrated by the mischievous goblins.

This daring challenge presents an opportunity to place a wager and potentially secure the companionship of the endearing Owlbear Cub.

However, for some players the cub failing to appear at the Goblin Camp even after engaging in dialogue with the goblin leader.

This unexpected turn of events has left players scratching their heads and wondering if they missed out on a heartwarming connection.

I went with the peaceful route dealing with the Owlbear mother where I passed a perception check and left the cave, but it seems like the Goblins never head in there to kill her so the Owlbear cub never winds up at the Goblin camp.

I’ve completed the owlbear cave and left the cub alive, just made it to the goblin camp but the cub won’t spawn next to the goblin running the chicken activity. I’ve tried several long rests away from the goblin camp but they haven’t helped. Any suggestions?

On the other hand, a separate set of players have encountered a slightly different issue. After rescuing the Owlbear Cub from the goblins, it appears at the player’s camp, looking for food.

This interaction elicits feelings of joy and attachment, as players revel in the presence of their newfound companion.

However, a sense of disappointment creeps in when the Owlbear Cub’s visits stops after just a few encounters (1,2).

Potential tips and tricks

Don’t worry, we have some tips to help you with these issues. If the Owlbear Cub isn’t in the Goblin Camp, take a few long rests:

After leaving the cave you need to long rest a few times for it to appear in the goblin camp.

Also, the Owlbear Cub doesn’t show up at your camp as soon as you give it your scent. Instead, it’ll show up multiple long rests later once it gets far enough from the Goblin Camp and decides you’re not a threat.
