The Motorola Razr+ 2023 owners have lately been facing an issue where the proximity sensor is not working during hardware test in the Device Help menu.

The proximity sensor detects the phone’s proximity to one’s face and can help automatically answer the call, eliminating the need to navigate buttons while on the call.

Additionally, the sensor can detect the amount of light in the surroundings, and adjust the screen’s brightness for optimal visibility.

However, multiple Razr+ 2023 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) owners are encountering difficulties while using the sensor. Some allege that the sensor stops working properly and fails the phone’s diagnostic test within a week of purchase.

They claim that the icon on their phones screen does not change even after putting their hand over the screen. And sadly, they have to get their new units replaced by the service center.

Although people say that the sensors work like they should when making a call. And this can be confirmed by the fact that the device’s screen turns off when placed near the ear.


Surprisingly, people are experiencing this issue on the replacement units as well. And it is understandably quite disappointing to be witnessing such a problem time and again.

Notably, several individuals from different parts of the world are having the same problem, indicating a potential defect in the hardware or software of the phone.

If I run the test several times it usually will pass if I actually touch the screen but once in a while it fails that way also. It never passes just by waving near the screen.

Hi I’m with the same problem! Razr 40 Ultra black, diagnosis everything ok except the proximity sensor. Strangely, if I make a call, the sensor works and turns off the screen, but if I put my hand as the sensor test asks, nothing happens.

Interestingly, a user asserts that the proximity sensor only passes when their hand is directly above the sensor.

Those impacted have even tried restarting and factory resetting both the original and replacement units, but unfortunately, they were unable to resolve the problem.

Fortunately, Motorola is aware of the issue with the Proximity Sensor and claims that the improvements to the app will be rolled out in a future update.
