Original story (published on November 01, 2021) follows:
When it comes to the security of our home, Google’s Nest lineups of cameras and doorbells are among the best options to go by. Google ensures the complete security of your house with its smart home solutions.
Users can manage their Google Nest cameras and doorbells using the Nest app or the Google Home app. These apps immediately notify you as and when anyone shows up at your house.
These gadgets are only useful when they make you alert at the exact time when anyone arrives at your residence.
Users are reporting delayed notification issues with outdoor cameras and doorbells on their phones, meanwhile, the same notifications are coming on time on other Google Assistant devices such as Google Nest Hub.
Here are some reports for reference:
@googlenesthelp hi I’m having a major delay in notifications. Had a visitor at 7:59 and did not get the iPhone alert until 8:09. It’s been happening all day. Wifi is fine, everything looks to be updated. Any suggestions? Never had this issue until today… (Source)
Hi, have the same issue here. Notifications are on time on nest hub and all other Google assistant devices but delayed on phones. Android and iPhone have the same issue. It’s getting annoying that the doorbell is not reliable. (Source)
The notifications are getting delayed by approximately 10-20 minutes in almost every case. Those affected have tried changing their Wi-Fi network and re-starting the device, but nothing worked.
This issue has been bothering Google Nest users for quite some time now and looking at multiple reports, it looks like a widespread issue that is affecting many.
On the brighter side, Google Nest support has acknowledged this issue and said that they are currently investigating it. However, they did not share any ETA on when this glitch will be actually fixed.
Unfortunately, there is no workaround available at the moment that affected users can try to resolve this issue. All in all, you’ll have to wait until Google fixes it and we hope that it gets sorted out soon.
That said, we will keep you updated on the further development of Google Nest cameras and doorbells delayed notifications issue as and when anything new comes to our notice.
Update 1 (November 03, 2021)
03:19 pm (IST): It appears that the notifications issue has been fixed as Google support is now reaching out to users who reported the problem on Twitter asking whether things are working fine.
We’d suggest monitoring it for now. When you don’t receive the notification, try checking your camera if it is turned on or it’s off and the LED’s color. We’ll also make a follow up to make sure everything’s back on track. (Source)
A user also confirmed that things are working fine now.
It has been working fine since next morning of Halloween, Though I noticed one incident today evening where I did not get the notification at all. I’ll let you know if It happens again. (Source)
Update 2 (July 5, 2023)
12:57 pm (IST): Although the issue with delayed notifications was reportedly fixed in 2021, fresh reports suggest that it persists to date.
